Thomas Rand, CPA

Tax Manager

Thomas brings 45 years of public accounting experience to the TPS Thayer tax team.  Thomas divides his time between Houston Metro and Arkansas which is now his home.  His career began with a small local public accounting firm in 1974 and evolved into the ownership of a local CPA firm in North Alabama.  After merging his practice with another local firm, Thomas and his partners created the largest local firm in that area.

Thomas was the tax partner for this local firm and has advised and worked with various businesses, including the medical profession, legal profession, small retail establishments, oil and gas activities, construction and engineering and agricultural interests.  Most recently he has spent a great deal of time working with real estate investors and developers.  A new interest Thomas has revolves around the accounting and taxation of agricultural activities, primarily livestock breeding

“I like to think that I bring a vast amount of tax experience to the table and when it is all said and done, I have not cost the client for my services because the goal is to get to the most accurate and lowest possible tax our clients would have to pay.  I would strive to make any client’s relationship with TPS Thayer as rewarding of an experience as possible considering the subject is income tax!”


Thomas received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, double majoring in Accounting and Personnel Management.  Thomas also has post graduate work on a Masters in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University.

* Certified Public Accountant in Alabama (Retired) and in Texas.

*Member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the Houston CPA chapter.

Hobbies & Interests

Thomas enjoys watching college sporting events, especially college football.  Additionally, he may be caught watch pro sports, including football, baseball and hockey.  Thomas likes to watch movies of all types.  Recently, Thomas has begun a walking and exercise program which he is sure will lead to a better quality of life.  He and his wife have a Boar goat farm and he enjoys working with the animals when time allows.  Thomas says if you like puppies or kittens, you will love baby goats!
